California drivers are often immune to the traffic conditions that irritate motorists in other locations. However, no matter how experienced and adaptable drivers can be, there are times when even professional drivers cannot avoid getting involved in car accidents. Sadly, a recent collision involving a wrong-way driver took two lives and injured several others.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a crash involving three vehicles occurred along the northbound lanes of Highway 101 shortly after 2 a.m. on a recent Sunday. The report states that a 21-year-old female driver purportedly entered the highway heading southbound in the northbound lanes. As the driver proceeded down the road, her automobile collided with two other vehicles.
The impact killed the wrong-way driver and caused another victim to be ejected from a car. That victim was later identified as an Uber driver and a father of seven children. Several passengers in the Uber driver’s vehicle were transported for treatment of their undisclosed injuries. There were no further details regarding the condition of the third driver involved in the crash or of any other passengers who may have been injured.
California Highway Patrol has not yet completed its investigation, and it is unclear why the driver was headed in the wrong direction on the highway. Of the injured passengers, at the time of the report, four were still receiving in-patient care. The Uber driver’s family is understandably devastated by the loss of their father and husband. In these types of tragic situations, victims — and surviving family members — often struggle to cope with the financial losses that frequently accrue in the days and weeks after serious car accidents. It may be possible for victims to seek just compensation for those damages through the state’s civil justice system.
