The U.S. News & World Report releases a list of the safest cars every year to help buyers decide which vehicles they should choose to protect their families. Driving a safe car may help you avoid car accidents or prevent serious injuries in the event of a collision, so it’s in your best interest to take a look at this list. Here are some of the safest cars of 2017:
2017 Subaru Impreza
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave a five-star crash rating to this vehicle, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Subaru Impreza with a Top Safety Pick + rating. One of the most impressive features on this car is the EyeSight Driver Assist technology, which is designed to be a second set of eyes for the driver. The system will monitor traffic, warn the driver when he is about to drift into another lane, and apply the brakes in emergency situations. There’s no doubt that everyone on the road is safer when drivers use this technology.
2017 Genesis G90
The Genesis G90 is one of the safest luxury vehicles on the list and has also earned a Top Safety Pick + rating from the IIHS. Although this car is priced higher than many others on the list, buyers will get a wide range of safety features in return for paying more. One of these safety features is the automatic braking system that is so advanced it can detect pedestrians and bicyclists in addition to other cars. The G90 also features a 360-degree camera and rear cross traffic alert, which will allow you to see drivers that are in your blind spot.
2017 Volvo V60
Next on the list is the 2017 Volvo V60 , which is a modern station wagon. The City Safety feature helped this model earn one of the top spots on this year’s list. City Safety is a system designed to be used when driving at a low speed (up to 30 mph) in stop-and-go traffic. If the system detects a collision is imminent, it will apply the brakes if the driver has not done so already.
The researchers who compiled this data suggest upgrading to HID low beam headlights instead of choosing the standard headlights if you decide to buy this vehicle. The standard headlights were given a “poor” rating, but researchers observed a significant improvement in the performance of the HID low beam lights.
